Why can files or folders have the same name in the Vault?

The Vault encrypts file and folder names before storing them on the server. Because the server cannot read or compare the encrypted names, it cannot detect duplicate names or automatically add a number such as “File(1)” like regular cloud storage.
In some cases, the app can compare file names locally and try to rename items. However, the Vault is available across multiple devices. When files are uploaded, moved, restored, or saved from different devices at the same time, a single app cannot always know the latest changes from every device. Forcing automatic renaming would not fully prevent duplicate names, and could make names inconsistent across devices, causing more confusion.
As a result, you may see multiple files or folders with the same name in the Vault. This is expected behavior for encrypted storage and multi-device sync, not a system error. Duplicate names may appear whenever files or folders are added to the Vault, including uploading, moving items into the Vault, restoring items from Trash, or saving shared items.
To make files easier to identify, you can save them to a cleaner destination with fewer existing items or a clearer folder structure. If duplicate names already exist, use details such as the created time or modified time to tell them apart.
