How is the Vault different from regular cloud storage?
The Vault and regular cloud storage use fundamentally different security models.
Regular cloud storage uses platform-side encryption, allowing PikPak to access file content to provide features such as transcoding, thumbnail generation, and previews. The Vault uses End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) — files are encrypted on your device before upload, so PikPak cannot decrypt or access any plaintext content, including file names.
Because server-side processing cannot operate on encrypted data, features such as HD transcoding, thumbnail previews, and screen casting are not supported in the Vault. In return, your content is not indexed or scanned by PikPak or any third party.
